U.S. Army veteran served in World War II

John-Morrissey-obit-webLYNNFIELD — John P. Morrissey, 91, of Lynnfield, formerly of Dennis, died on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Wingate at Reading Nursing Center of natural causes.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, on August 25, 1925, he was the son of the late Daniel and Rosalind (Beagan) Morrissey.

Mr. Morrissey was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence, Rhode Island. He attended Providence College and was a graduate of Boston University. He earned a master’s degree in Business from Northeastern University. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

John Morrissey had a work ethic that will remain his legacy, and he made certain to instill this in his four children. He was totally dedicated to his family. He had a successful career in pharmaceutical and chemical sales prior to purchasing his own chemical company. In addition to running his business, he served as adjunct faculty at La Salle University, Community College of Philadelphia and Burlington County College.

He enjoyed public speaking and delighted in adding theatrical flair to his volunteer work as a lector at St. Adelaide’s in West Peabody and Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster. He was an avid reader. He was never happier than when swimming in any body of water, particularly the Atlantic Ocean on family vacations to Cape Cod. He had great appreciation for the theater and enjoyed listening to Broadway show tunes. He loved ballroom dancing; it was a pleasure to watch him and his wife, Eileen, performing their favorite waltz on the dance floor at weddings.

Mr. Morrissey was predeceased by his wife, Eileen (Russell) Morrissey. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Shaun Morrissey and Jill Drury, of Nashua, N.H.; Eileen E. Morrissey of Millstone, New Jersey; Deidre Lamusta of Lynnfield; and Terrence Morrissey and his wife Susan of Moorestown, New Jersey. He is also survived by his two brothers, Daniel Morrissey of South Kingstown, Rhode Island and Joseph Morrissey of Charlestown, Rhode Island and was predeceased by his sister, Rosalind Flynn. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service for John Morrissey is planned for the summer of 2017. The McDonald Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of arrangements.
