World War II veteran with local survivors
NORTH READING — John Viveiros passed away peacefully at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington. He was 93. Born and raised on Concord Avenue in Somerville, he was the son of the late John and Josephine (Reposa) Viveiros. He served in The U.S. Navy during World War II. He participated in combat in the Pacific Theater aboard the Battleship USS Wisconsin and was a plank owner of the ship.
A proud member of the Greatest Generation, John worked hard throughout his life and provided the best he could for his family. A Medford resident for over 40 years, he worked for the truck manufacturer Lewis & Shepherd for many years. He also worked in facilities maintenance for 20 years with Medford Public Schools, before he retired. He was devoted to his wife, family and many friends.
The beloved husband of the late Assunta “Sue” (Iovine), he was a devoted father to John A. Viveiros and his wife Patricia Shannon of Marblehead, Stephen Viveiros and his companion Loraine Dunn of Centerville, Anthony C. Viveiros and his wife Kristin Johnson of Charlestown and Susan M. Sullivan and her husband Brian J. of North Reading. He was a loving papa to Emily Sullivan, Augustus Viveiros and Cecilia Viveiros as well as a dear brother of the late Sr. Cecilia Viveiros, MM.
His funeral was held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday, Oct. 3 followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford. Services concluded with burial at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
