Crowley-obit_webMELROSE — Joseph “Joey” Crowley, 55, of Melrose, died at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on August 8. 

Joey was born and raised in Melrose and attended Melrose schools. He was a lifelong Melrose resident and worked as a janitor for Crystal Warehouse Corp. in Wakefield for many years. 

Joey enjoyed playing softball and basketball in Melrose for the Special Olympics and playing golf at Mt. Hood Golf Club in Melrose. He loved to dance and was an avid Boston sports fan, attending Boston Red Sox spring training for more than 25 years. 

Joey was the loving son of the late Thomas W. and F. Rita (Sampson) Crowley. He was the caring brother of Thomas J. Crowley of Lawrence, Janet F. Curry and her husband John of CA and Susan R. Rubin of Ipswich. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends at Joey’s group home in Reading. 

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, August 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. 

Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home was on Friday, August 11, at 9:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St., Melrose at 11 a.m. 

Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
