WAKEFIELD — Joseph D. “Joey” MacDonald, Jr., 49, of Wakefield, formerly of Melrose, passed away suddenly on April 23, 2019.

Born in Malden on July 24, 1969 he was the beloved son of Joseph D. MacDonald of Tewksbury and Ernestine “Cookie” Buldini and her husband Dan of Melrose.

Joey was raised in Melrose and was a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1988. He was a member of Laborers Union Local 22 for the past 20 years. An avid Red Sox fan, he never missed an Opening Day; and he also loved the New England Patriots. Known for his laughter, sense of humor and endless jokes, Joey was quick to bring a smile to everyone’s face.

In addition to his parents, Joey is survived by his two loving daughters: Jacquelyn and Joelle MacDonald, both of Wakefield; their caring mother, Joyce Keenan-MacDonald of Wakefield; his cherished sisters: Debra MacDonald Wolf of Tewksbury, Donna Marie MacDonald of Melrose, Dale MacDonald Lydiard and her husband Scott Lydiard of Rye, N.H.; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that will all miss him dearly. He was recently predeceased by his grandmother, the late Phyllis MacDonald.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Monday at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.

The family has requested that attendants to the funeral and visitation add something blue to their attire in honor of Joey’s life.
