LYNNFIELD — Joseph A. DeSalvo, 87, of Lynnfield and Palm Beach, Florida, died Friday, April 14, 2017 at Salem Hospital.

Born in Revere on January 29, 1930, he was the son of the late Charles and Madelyn (Russo) DeSalvo.

Mr. DeSalvo was raised in Revere and was a graduate of Revere High School, Class of 1948. He then went on to graduate with an accounting degree from Boston College in 1953. Following his years at BC, Mr. DeSalvo began a career in accounting, working for companies such as Sugarman Bros. and Gillette before venturing out on his own as an entrepreneur. He first opened an insurance business and then in 1978 he started Century Tire Co. in Lynn, which then expanded to five locations. At the age of 63, he retired and enjoyed many hobbies. He was an avid golfer and poker player, and also enjoyed hunting and shooting. Mr. DeSalvo spent the majority of retirement at his residence in Florida.

He was the beloved husband of Geraldine V. (Jankowski) DeSalvo. He was the loving father of Charles J. DeSalvo and his wife Lisa of Beverly; Valerie A. Lauzon and her husband James of Avon, Connecticut; Joseph W. DeSalvo and his wife Joanne; and David C. DeSalvo and his wife Sandra, all of Swampscott. He was the brother of the late Josephine Wade, Sally “Sister” Federici and Peter DeSalvo. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Danielle DeSalvo; Ben, Elizabeth and James Lauzon; Samantha and Joseph DeSalvo; and Michael and Justin DeSalvo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation for relatives and friends will take place at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be private.
