WAKEFIELD — Joseph G. Saraceno, Sr., 87, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away after a short illness on Saturday morning, October 27, 2018. He was the husband of the late Ruth L. (Granata) Saraceno.

Born in Boston and raised in Revere, he was the son of the late Frank Saraceno and the late Dominica Saraceno. Joseph was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 5th Fighter Interceptor Squadron.

Joseph was an engineer and draftsman in the aerospace industry. He had worked as a contractor for several area companies, including Raytheon and Analogic. Joseph was a skilled craftsman and handyman, building his own home in Revere when he returned from Korea.

Joseph was an active and faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Church in Somerville, serving as Church Treasurer and teaching Sunday school. He was a talented photographer, and enjoyed military history. Joseph was also an avid Boston sports fan. Most of all, Joseph loved spending time with his family.

Joseph is survived by three daughters, Margaret Priddy of Gloucester, Christine Saraceno of Fitchburg, and Deborah Saraceno of Allentown, Pa.; and two sons, Joseph G. Saraceno, Jr. of Wakefield, and George Saraceno and his wife Grace of Woburn. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin, Sarah  and Elizabeth Saraceno, and Amber Ray; and one great-grandchild, Kellan Winn. In addition to his wife and his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers, Albert, Guy, and Frank; and sisters, Sandra and Marie.

A funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 322 Main St., Woburn Center on Thursday, November 1 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be at the Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn on Wednesday evening from 4-8 p.m. Burial will be at the Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
