Loved the Patriots and Red Sox
LYNNFIELD — Joseph E. Motzkin, 81, of Lynnfield, died on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023 in Lynnfield.
Joseph was born in Malden on July 7,1942, and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Morandi) Motzkin. He was raised in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School. He had been a Lynnfield resident since 1975.
Mr. Motzkin spent over 60 years in the waste industry, where he was a leader and pioneer in the field. He established the first dual-stream recycling plant in the Boston area. His final job was as president of Empire Recycling of Billerica. He was a longtime New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox season ticket holder, and was always generous with family and friends.
He was the beloved husband of the late Sandra (Gopen) Motzkin. He was the loving father of Joseph H. Motzkin, and his wife Lisa of Lynnfield; and the late Michael Motzkin. He was the brother of Susan Waite of Lynnfield; and James Motzkin of Georgetown. Joseph’s loving grandchildren, Joseph and Amanda Motzkin, also survive him.
Joseph’s Funeral Mass was celebrated in Saint Maria Goretti Church, Lynnfield on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023 at 10 a.m. Interment followed at Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynnfield. Visitation for relatives and friends were held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023 from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Michael Motzkin Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Joseph Motzkin, 100 Salem St., Lynnfield, MA 01940.
