WAKEFIELD — Joseph P. Racamato, 86, of Wakefield, died Sunday, Dec. 27, at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Born in Everett on May 15, 1934 he was the son of the late Peter and Marion (Moffi) Racamato.
He was raised in Everett and moved to Wakefield as a young boy. He attended the Franklin School and Wakefield High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean era. After his service, Joseph graduated from Sikorsky Helicopter School in Connecticut. Alongside his brother Louis, he helped start LAR Service Center of Wakefield more than 50 years ago. He also worked more than 50 years for Crystal Chemical Packing of Wakefield.
Joseph was one of the first members of the Crystal Joseph Community Club of Wakefield and was a past president and 25-year member of The Sons of Italy, Wakefield Lodge 1734. He loved spending time with his family and friends, most especially time spent with his grandchildren; he was a good man and a hard worker and will be missed by all who loved him.
He was the beloved husband of Rosemarie (Landry) Racamato, with whom he shared nearly 58 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Joseph Racamato Jr. and wife Maura, Mary McNiff and husband Sean, Steven Racamato and wife Michelle, and Louis Racamato and wife Elizabeth, all of Wakefield. He was the brother of Michael Racamato of Wakefield and the late Geraldine and Louis Racamato. He was the grandfather of Nicole, Kristen and her husband Kurt, Brian, Amanda, Danielle, Steven, Brianna and Olivia.
A private funeral Mass for family was celebrated in St. Joseph Church, Wakefield. Interment was at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
