Enjoyed tending to his garden

DANVERS — Joseph E. Riley Jr., 90, peacefully passed away on May 5, 2024 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born in Dorchester on Sept. 26, 1933, Mr. Riley lived a life marked by hard work and dedication. For over 45 years, he tirelessly provided for his family through his commitment to “The Boston Herald,” often working long hours and overnight shifts.

Mr. Riley found joy in caring for his home and tending to his garden, where he poured his love and attention. A dedicated family man, he cherished moments spent at home with his children and grandchildren.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn Louise (English). He was the loving father of Kathi Yergin and her husband, Jerry, of Lisbon Falls, Maine; Richard Riley and his significant other, Julie, of Peabody; and Stephen Riley and his wife, Michelle, of Lynnfield. He was the adoring grandfather of Brian, Meghan, Sarah, Connor, Ryan, Cameron, Spencer and Vanessa. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father Joseph E. Riley Sr.

A graveside service will be held at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake St., Peabody, on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
