Avid quilter and exceptional gardener

NORTH READING — Joyce B. Bowman, 77, of North Reading, died at her home on Friday, November 24, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Medford, on March 11, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Elery and Bessie (Phillips) McKeil.

Joyce was raised in Medford and had worked as a hair stylist for Russell Edwards of Boston before opening her own shop in North Reading. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed spending time with her friends at her quilt shop. Joyce’s yard was a showplace due to her exceptional gardening skills, although “Nanny” was most happy when simply spending time with her grandchildren.

She was the beloved wife of Thomas A. Bowman. She was the loving mother of Kristin E. Bowman of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, Dana L. Delano and her husband Kevin of North Reading, and Keily J. Tanguay and her husband Kevin of Derry, New Hampshire.  She was the sister of Jean Watson of Medford, New York, Beverly Spofford of Stuart, Florida, and the late Edith Rooney and Roy McKeil. She was also the loving grandmother of Samantha, Drew, Abigail, Emma, Owen and Noah. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Sunday, December 3 from 2 – 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be private.
