Districts will be held tomorrow in Andover

WAKEFIELD — The Wakefield Knights of Columbus, Council #104, held its annual “K of C Free Throw Championship” on Sunday, Jan. 22 at the Woodville School Gym. This competition was open to all Wakefield boys and girls, ages nine through 14.

The winning girls were: Age nine-Shea Suntken, Age 10-Katherine McPhail, and Age 11- Megan Cataldo. Other age girls didn’t compete.

The winning boys were: Age 9-John Fitzgerald, Age 11-Owen Riddell, and Age 13-Logan Cosgrove. No age 10,12, or 14 year old boys competed. The top sharpshooter was Fitzgerald.

These six winners will compete next in the K of C District Championship on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Andover Knights of Columbus, Council #1078, located at 10 Brook St. in Andover. The competition will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Each contestant will be shooting 25 free throws in all future competitions. Birth certificates are necessary when the children register at the District, Regional,and State competitions.

The Northern Regional competition will be held at the Coolidge Middle School in Reading on Saturday, March 4. The starting time will be at 9:00 a.m. with registrations starting at 8 a.m.

Grand Knight (GK) Vinny Gonzales thanks all the young shooters who took the time to compete and he wishes all the winners well as they compete at the next level. Each contestant was given a certificate noting their participation while the winners received a Council Champion Certificate and a Champion plaque.

This event was successful because of the efforts of Chairman Bob Curran, Jack O’Leary, Grand Knight Gonzales, Jason Zerfas, Dave Curran. and Steve Addonizio.
