A devoted teacher and caring person who enjoyed singing, dancing and traveling
LYNNFIELD — Katharine M. “Kathy” Hashian, 76, of Lynnfield and formerly of Lynn, died peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the Artis Senior Living of Reading, surrounded by her beloved partner Frank D. Carey.
Born December 9, 1947 in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late James “Jack” and Jennifer “Jennie” (Trovato) Hashian. She was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School in 1965. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree from Salem State College in 1969 and later earned Master’s degrees from Salem State and Simmons Colleges. Kathy worked as an English teacher, Title I Director, Language Arts Coordinator and Head of the English Department in the North Reading Public Schools for over 37 years. She was a proud member of the North Reading Teachers Association, MTA, and the National Education Association.
She enjoyed reading, dancing and singing, and was a longtime member of the Reading Choral Group. She loved traveling with Frank and her girlfriends, spending time in the Dominican Republic and listening to Dominican music, sports, laughing with her ya-ya sisters and had a special love for her nieces, nephew and her girlfriends.
Kathy will be remembered fondly by her students, colleagues, family and friends as a very caring person, devoted teacher and very much loved by all who knew her.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided to Kathy by the staff at Artis Senior Living and by All Care Hospice.
In addition to her companion Frank Carey, Kathy is survived by her brother Michael Hashian; her nieces Aja Hashian and Lauren Hashian-Johnson and her husband Dwayne; her nephew Adam Hashian and his wife McKenzie; her sisters-in-law, Suzanne Hashian and Barbara Hashian; her cousin Rose Manni, and her aunt and uncle Gloria and Leo Trovato. She was the sister of the late John “Sib” Hashian and Thaddeus Hashian.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rte. 129), Lynn at 11 a.m. Inurnment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9-11 a.m., prior to the Memorial Service.
