Felker-obit-webMELROSE — Katherine Felker, 75, of Melrose, passed away on March 6.

Katherine was born on August 5, 1939 to Joseph and Katherine Higgins in Melrose. She was a lifelong resident of Melrose, attending St. Mary’s Grammar and High School. Katherine married Donald R. Felker, and the couple spent 48 wonderful years together. Much of Katherine’s life was dedicated to her family. Donald and Katherine raised their two children in Melrose, where Katherine was frequently volunteering at the Washington Elementary School and was a member of the PTO. She was also a member of the Melrose Lions Club for many years along with her husband Donald.

Katherine also spent many years working at the Melrose City Hall Election Office. She used to love taking her family up to Lake Winnipesaukee, where they had made many friends over the years since they would always go for the same two weeks every summer. Katherine would enjoy spending that time shopping, walking around town and going out to eat. After her children moved out and started lives of their own, Katherine and Donald gave much of their attention to their dog Mugsy. Some in the family would even say Mugsy became their number one child. The two would go for long walks with the dog every single day. More than anything, Katherine will be remembered as a loving woman who was always there for her family. She will be greatly missed.

Katherine was the loving mother of Donald R. Felker, Jr. and his wife Candi of Ohio; and Ann Marie Chabot and her husband Darren of Melrose. She was the cherished grandmother of Samantha and Kyle. She was the caring sister of Marilyn Robinson of Melrose; Elizabeth Higgins of Melrose; Nancy Turmelle of Florida; and the late Joseph F. Higgins, Jr.; Bobby Higgins; Joanne Mays and Mary Ellen Turmelle. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Katherine’s funeral mass was held on Wednesday, March 11 at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, 55 Herbert St., Melrose. Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, March 10. Burial will take place in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. To sign the online guestbook and for additional information please visitwww.gatelyfh.com.
