LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield Athletic Association’s 48th annual 4th of July Road Race attracted 276 runners. The LAA awarded prizes to the top three male and female finishers in 10 age categories as well as to the top female and male overall finishers.

The top time of the day in the 5K race was recorded by James Bailey, 19, of Danvers in 16:07 while a new women’s record was set by Caroline King, 26, of Brighton in 17:18. Race scoring was conducted by Yankee Timing Co.

Awards are presented to runners in one category only, which opened up the field in the men’s age 17-19 category to three top runners from Lynnfield – Alex Dalelio, 18 (19:00), Joseph Motzkin, 17 (20:21) and Connor Reardon, 17 (22:28). On the women’s side of the ledger, it opened up the field to three women in the 20-29 age group – Audrey Zaferos, 28, of Cambridge (20:44), Alex Testa, 22, of Amherst (21:02) and Crissy Haley, 29, of NYC.

The oldest woman to complete the race was Margaret Lankow, 66, of Ipswich. She took top honors in the 60-69 age group at 33:45.

The oldest man to finish the race was 83-year-old Tim Cunningham of Manchester. He took second in the men’s 70-99 age group in 41:40. Zeke Zannotti, 72, of Peabody, won this age group in 33:02.

Among children in the 10-and-under category, Benjamin Wallace, 9, of Reading, took top honors for the boys in 23:11. Second-place went to Matthew Gallagher, 10, of Waltham (26:18) while Devin Bolger, 10, of Lynnfield, took third (27:20).

The best time among girls ages 10 and under went to Caroline Weeks, 9, of Portsmouth, N.H., in 26:56. Two Lynnfield girls took second and third in this age group, with second won by Morgan Hubbard, 8, in 41:13 and Adriana Buccilli, 8, taking third in 41:48.

This year marked Adriana’s third time competing in the LAA 4th of July 5K. In her first race back in 2010 as a 3-year-old she won a trophy for being the youngest runner. This year, she was joined by her younger brother Paul, 5, who ran an unofficial time of 42:20. They ran alongside their aunt, Grace Balian, who finished in 41:47.

Among 11- to 13-year-olds, the top three boys were Dennis St. Jean, 13, of Athol in 19:26, Brenden Henehan, 11, of Lynnfield (24:26) and Andrew Moreschi, 12, of Lynnfield (29:06) and the top three girls were April Weeks, 11, of Portsmouth, N.H. in 24:24, Sofia Ciriello, 13, of Lynnfield (24:30) and Melissa Morelli, 13, of Lynnfield (28:33).

The winner among boys ages 14-16 was Jonathan Luders, 14, of Lynnfield in 18:01 while Andrew Moriarty, 15, of Danvers took second (19:08) and Andrew Weeks, 15, of Portsmouth, N.H. took third (19:22).

Three girls from Lynnfield took top honors in the 14 to 16 age group. Finishing first was Rachel Badger, 15, in 28:15 while Emily Larovere, 16, was second (29:55) and Jessica Badger, 16, was third (30:34).

Three girls from Lynnfield also earned the top three times in the 17-19 age group. Taking first was Olivia Lamarche, 17, in 21:50 while Jennifer Caruso, 18, took second (22:08) and Marie Norwood, 17, placed third (23:55).

Tom O’Shea, 20, of Lynnfield won the men’s 20-29 age group in 16:42. Taking second was Forrest Tobie, 29, of Boston in 18:52 while Freddy Shove, 21, of Lynnfield placed third (19:36).

Mark Hudson, 37, of Lynnfield was the winner of the men’s 30-39 age group with a time of 17:42. In second and third, respectively, were Benjamin Spaulding, 33, of Medford (18:01) and Brian Hutter, 34, of Arlington (18:38).

Winning the women’s 30-39 age group was Laura Buchanan, 31, of Melrose in 19:04. Taking second and third were two women from Beverly, Julia Hincman-Francavi, 32, in 19:05 and Kelly McLay, 35, in 21:07.

In the men’s age 40-49 age group, the top three finishers were Matthew Deangelis, 40, of NYC (17:27), Steven Lecours, 45, of Bradford (19:29), and Dean Malerba, 40, of Lynnfield (22:05).

Among women ages 40-49 the top three finishers were Emily McDevitt, 40, of Melrose (20:31), Kelly Migliero, 40, of Lynnfield (23:33) and Kimberly Borans, 41, of North Reading (25:05).

The top three finishers among men ages 50-59 were Rick Walsh, 56, of West Newbury (19:42), Mark Rosenblum, 56, of Melrose (21:34) and Andrew Nagelin, 50, of Medford (22:26).

Women 50-59 who finished in the top three were Elizabeth Emerald, 58, of Melrose (23:17), Diane Cook, 58, of Lynnfield (25:48) and Denise Young, 55, of Lynnfield (22:26).

Lynnfield’s Bob Feeney, 61, won the men’s 60-69 age group in 23:29. Taking second in this age group was Joe McGurn, 66, of Medford (24:41) while Richard O’Neil, 67, of Fayetteville, Ind., took third in 25:41.

LHS student recognition

The race serves as a fund-raiser for the LAA, which sponsors scholarships for LHS students and provides supplemental funds that support Pioneer athletes and teams.

This year, 17 LHS students competed in the race. The LAA created a special category to recognize their efforts. They finished in the following order: 1. Jonathan Luders, 14 (18:01, mile pace: 5:49); 2. Alex Dalelio, 18 (19:00, mile pace: 6:08); 3. Joseph Motzkin, 17 (20:21, mile pace: 6:34); 4. Michael Carangelo, 16 (21:09, mile pace: 6:50); 5. Connor Reardon, 17 (22:28, mile pace: 7:15); 6. Anthony Wilkinson, 15 (23:51, mile pace: 7:42); 7. Marie Norwood, 17 (23:55,mile pace: 7:43); 8. Meryl Braconnier, 17 (24:18, mile pace: 7:51); 9. Leena Aurora, 17 (24:55, mile pace: 8:02); 10. Hannah Scollard, 17 (26:15, mile pace: 8:28); 11. Nicholas Wilkinson, 17 (27:19, mile pace: 8:49); 12. Rachel Badger, 15 (28:15, mile pace: 9:07); 13. Jessica Badger, 16 (30:34, mile pace: 9:52); 14. Stephanie Robles, 14 (32:25, mile pace: 10:28); 15. Amanda Sieger, 17 (32:40, mile pace: 10:33); 16.
