Take on No. 1 seed Amesbury Thursday

NORTH READING — The Lady Hornets basketball team finished the regular season with a record of 11-11 and will travel to Amesbury to take on the No. 1 seed, the Indians, in the MIAA Division 3 North quarterfinals on Thursday, March 2 at 7 p.m.

Amesbury, a Cape Ann League opponent, finished the regular season at 19-1 overall and 13-1 in the league to capture the CAL’s Baker Division championship among the small schools. North Reading finished 6-9 in the league’s large school Kinney Division.

The winner of this game will advance to the North sectional semifinals against the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between fourth-seeded Green Academy (13-5) and fifth-seeded St. Mary’s (14-8), to be played on Friday, March 3 at 6 p.m. The date, time and location will be announced on www.MIAA.net

Fall in finale to Austin Prep

The Lady Hornets suffered a 49-37 road defeat to the Austin Prep Cougars in their regular season finale on February 22.

Sophomore Casey McAuliffe was the only North Reading player in double figures with 10 points.

It was a tight first quarter. By the end of one the Hornets only trailed 10-8.

The Cougars outscored North Reading by two points again in the second quarter and Austin Prep led 24-20 at the half.

Unfortunately, in the second half NRHS couldn’t battle back. They were outscored by a 25-17 margin and suffered a tough defeat.
