Stung in season opener by Marblehead

NORTH READING — The Marblehead Magicians traveled to NRHS and spoiled the Hornets home opener with their 4-1 victory on April 5.

Junior Megan Griffin picked up the only win of the match in a tough two-set affair at third singles 7-5, 6-2.

Senior captain Aly Budny suffered her first loss in over a year at second singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

At first singles senior captain Marissa Galuppo was sunk in a two-set sweep 6-3, 6-1.

Juniors Meghan Landers and Kylie Scher teamed up at first doubles and were downed in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. At second doubles senior captain Emily Zhang and junior Alexa Galuppo fell in two sets 6-1, 6-0.

Beat Bishop Fenwick 3-2

The Hornets hosted Bishop Fenwick on April 20 and downed the Crusaders 3-2 to pick up their first victory of the 2017 season.

Marissa Galuppo fought hard at first singles but ultimately lost in a three-set battle, 4-6, 6-3,7-6.

At second singles Aly Budny got on track with an easy straight set victory, 6-1, 6-1.

Megan Griffin suffered her first loss of the season at third singles in two sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Both doubles teams took care of business to clinch the match victory. At first doubles Alexa Galuppo and Meghan Landers cruised 6-1, 6-0.

Kylie Scher and Emily Zhang won at second doubles 6-0, 6-3.
