Get Past Generals 4-1

HAMILTON — The Hornets earned arguably their best win of the season as they handed the Hamilton-Wenham Generals just their third loss with their 4-1 victory on May 9.

At second singles senior captain Aly Budny won a three-set affair 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Junior Megan Griffin was tested at third singles but won in two sets 7-5, 6-4.

The lone loss came at first singles with senior captain Marissa Galuppo falling in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Both doubles teams won easily in straight sets.

Ace Amesbury 4-1

The Hornets returned to the court on May 10 and downed the Amesbury Indians 4-1.

At second singles Aly Budny was pushed to three sets again and won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Megan Griffin won at third singles without dropping a single game 6-0, 6-0. At first doubles senior captain Emily Zhang and junior Megan Landers cruised 6-3, 6-4.

Juniors Alexa Galuppo and Kylie Scher won a tight one at second doubles 7-6(3), 6-3. The only loss came at first singles where Marissa Galuppo fell 6-2, 6-2.

Swept by Manchester-Essex

CAL Baker Division leading Manchester-Essex swept North Reading 5-0 on Thursday to hand the Hornets their fourth loss.

The only close matches came in doubles. At first doubles Megan Landers and Emily Zhang were defeated in three sets 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. Alexa Galuppo and Kylie Scher suffered a hard luck defeat in a nail biter at second doubles 6-7(4), 6-0, 10-7.

Sink Swampscott 4-1

The Lady Hornets hosted Swampscott on Friday afternoon and easily defeated the Big Blue by a 4-1 margin.

At first singles Marissa Galuppo returned to the win column with an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory. Aly Budny’s match was a carbon copy of Galuppo’s match with Budny winning by an identical 6-1, 6-0 margin. Megan Landers got a taste of singles action at the third position and won in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

Emily Zhang and Kylie Scher teamed up at first doubles and won 6-3, 7-5. At second doubles Alexa Galuppo and sophomore Kim Bockley lost 6-7,(4), 6-0, 10-7.

Pound Pentucket 5-0

The Hornets picked up their fifth win in seven matches and improved to 7-4 with their 5-0 match sweep of the Pentucket Sachems on Monday.

Marissa Galuppo won her second straight match in a three-set thriller 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. At second singles Aly Budny easily won for the fourth time in five matches 6-2, 6-1. Meghan Griffin swept her match at third singles 6-1, 6-3. Both doubles matches were easy straight set victories.

Upcoming matches

The Lady Hornets hosted Masconomet Wednesday (after press time) and head to Triton Friday for a 3:30 p.m. match. They will close out the regular season at home with matches against Danvers on Monday, May 22 at 3:45 p.m. and Thursday, May 25 versus Austin Prep at 5 p.m.
