WAKEFIELD — The Meghan Burnett Foundation is pleased to announce the winner of our first annual Scholarship Award from the Meghan Burnett Fly High softball tournament, held in Wakefield this past summer. All graduating seniors who participated were invited to apply for this award whether they played in the tournament, in a band at the tournament or volunteered to help. The award is presented to the applicant who has demonstrated the highest levels of character, positivity and leadership.

This year’s award went to Brooke Lamothe, a 2018 graduate of Tewksbury Memorial High School. Brooke graduated with high honors at the top of her class with a heavy workload of Honors and AP courses as well as being a multi-sport student athlete.

Brooke is well known for her positive influence on and off the field. One of her coaches commented that “Brooke makes everyone better. She makes her teammates better, she makes her coaches better, and she makes them all better people.” Her special ability to make teammates feel confident and believe in themselves while being a tremendous leader and a positive mentor to younger athletes really displays a type of character that is rare in high school athletes. Needless to say, she was the perfect choice for this award.

Brooke currently attends Worcester State University where, as a student athlete, she is enrolled in the nursing program and plays volleyball and softball.

Next year’s tournament has been scheduled for June 28, 29 and 30 and will again have two age divisions, U14 and U18. More information will be posted soon at www.meghanburnettfoundation.org.

The Meghan Burnett foundation is a charitable organization established to honor the memory and continue the good works of the late Meghan Burnett, a 2018 graduate of Wakefield Memorial High School.
