WAKEFIELD — Leona (Katz)  Tigar, 98, of Wakefield, beloved wife of the late Gerald D. Tigar, died Dec. 13 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Portsmouth, N.H. she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Rebecca (Bozanick) Katz.

She was raised and educated in Newburyport and was a graduate of Newburyport High School.

She has been a longtime resident of Wakefield, having moved there in 1951. She was a homemaker and a valued assistant with her husband operating the Tigar Refrigeration Company in Everett.

She was a past member of Temple Emmanuel of Chelsea.

She is survived by her children Sherry M. LaMacchia and her husband Robert of Seattle, Wash. and Steven F. Tigar and his wife Josiane of Revere; her grandchildren David LaMacchia and his wife Jenny, Brian LaMacchia, Michael Tigar, Tessa Rose Tigar and Daniel Tigar, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Milton Katz, Nathan Cates, Edith Miller and Murray Katz.

Services at the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave., Chelsea on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 9:30 a.m. Interment in Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon.

Memorial observance and Shiva will be private.
