WWII veteran was an engineer at Gillette

Obit-Garofalo-webWAKEFIELD — Luigi Garofalo, 95, of Wakefield, died Feb. 7 at his residence.
Born in East Boston on Jan. 28, 1921, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Ermelinda (Barbato) Garofalo.
Mr. Garofalo was raised and educated in East Boston. He then enlisted in the Navy and served during World War II.
He had been employed as a longtime engineer for Gillette in South Boston. During his retirement years, Mr. Garofalo worked as a bus driver and at Whittemore Hardware Store in Melrose.
Mr. Garofalo was the husband of Florence (Fayle) Garofalo and the late Elizabeth “Betty” (Walsh) Garofalo. He was the father of Louis A. Garofalo and his wife Heidi of Harvard and Austin Garofalo and his wife Stacey of Wakefield. He was the brother of Michael Garofalo and Gloria Deveaux, both of Peabody, and the late Jean Mini and Elena Maloney. He was the grandfather of Matthew, Sarah, Michael, Andrew, Amy, Lindsey and Amanda. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield at 10 o’clock.
Visitation for relatives and friends at the funeral home on Thursday 4-8 p.m. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
