Rushed for over 200 yards, scored two TDs against Lexington
WAKEFIELD — Senior running back Luke Martin was named the Daily Item Football Player of the Week for his effort in Wakefield’s overtime game against Lexington last Friday night at Landrigan Field.
Martin was the workhorse for the Warriors as he carried the ball 38 times for 207 yards and two touchdowns. The senior co-captain also caught one pass for five yards.
On defense at linebacker, Martin had three tackles.
The Wakefield Daily Item names a player (or players) of the week after each Warrior football game.
The Daily Item honors that running back or quarterback that has a sensational game. Also, a wide receiver that makes a clutch reception may be honored.
Sometimes, the player or players could be a lineman who open some big holes for the backs or gave the QB solid protection in the passing game.
A defensive player could receive honors or a special teams player that has a huge impact may also be honored in a given week.
Each player (or players) of the week will have their photo appear in the Daily Item the week following the game and they will receive a certificate at the end of the football season to acknowledge their accomplishments.
