Lyman-Garniss-obit-webTEWKSBURY — Lyman T. Garniss Sr., 81, of Tewksbury and formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully after a short illness at home on Thursday, Jan. 7.

Born in Melrose on Feb. 27, 1934, Lyman was the son of the late W. Stewart and Dorothy (Taylor) Garniss. Mr. Garniss was a Melrose High School graduate and longtime resident. He served in the U.S. Air Force before settling in Melrose to raise a family.

Mr. Garniss was the owner of Lyman’s Super Market on Franklin Street in the Melrose Highlands for 30 years where he worked alongside his family with great joy.

Lyman was the beloved husband of Barbara A. “Janet” (Aldrich) Garniss with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Michael P. Garniss of Lynn and his fiancée Susan Butcher, Christopher J. Garniss and his wife Donna of Malden, Elizabeth A. Garniss of Tewksbury, Lyman T. Garniss Jr. and his wife Sandra of North Reading and John W. Garniss of Wakefield. He was the dear brother of Dorothy Ann Anderson of Weymouth and the late Doris Livas. Cherished grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor and remembrance of Lyman’s life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, Jan. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday for his funeral service celebrated at 10 a.m.
