WAKEFIELD — A 36-year-old Lynn man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police responded to a report of a car that was being driven erratically on Farm Street and then pulled over near Old Nahant Road.

Responding officers found a tan-colored Subaru Outback on the side of the road with the key in the ignition and running near the Saugus line at about 2:45 p.m. Police said that the driver initially just stared when asked to roll down his window. When he eventually did open the widow, police said that they detected a strong odor of alcohol and observed the man to have glassy, bloodshot eyes. When he was asked to step out of the car, police observed an open beer can in the console. According to police, the man then failed a series of field sobriety tests.

Police also determined that Juan Lopez of 16 Cedar St. in Lynn did not have a driver’s license. He was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

A 27-year-old Stoneham man was taken by ambulance to Mass. General Hospital after the 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle that he was driving was involved in a crash with a 2004 Lincoln driven by a 21-year-old Lynnfield woman on Salem Street near Montrose Avenue.

Police said that the Lincoln was changing lanes to pass another vehicle on the right and did not see the motorcycle in the right lane, resulting in the crash.

The motorcyclist was treated at the scene by Wakefield firefighters and Action Ambulance personnel for injuries to his neck, back, arm and right hip. He was placed on a backboard and neck collar for the trip to MGH.

The driver of the Lincoln was cited for a marked-lanes violation.

At about 4 p.m. on Friday, Wakefield Police, State Police, the Fire Department and Action Ambulance responded to a minor, two-car crash in the high-speed land of Route 128 near exit 40. It was unknown if there were any injuries.

At about 6:45 p.m. on Friday a caller reported a suspicious white vehicle with Florida license plates on Main Street. The caller said that the driver had multiple laptop computers inside the car and kept leaving and returning to the area. The caller provided a plate number, but no car matching the number was found. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.

Police received multiple calls just after midnight on Saturday morning of railroad gates malfunctioning. It turned out that a tree had fallen on the tracks and the MBTA was working to resolve the issue.

A 26-year-old Malden man was cited for speeding and a marked-lanes violation after crashing his 1999 BMW into a guardrail and a utility pole near 5 Forest St. at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday. The driver said that when he came to the curve in the road he lost control of the car and hit two guardrails before his car came to rest against a utility pole. The man was checked for injuries by emergency medical personnel from the Fire Department and Action Ambulance but refused transport to the hospital. The Light Department responded to check on the utility pole. The car was towed from the scene.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, police took a report of a possible past hit and run accident the previous night on Jefferson Road. Police said that the 2012 Chevy Malibu had sustained a small dent, possibly from being hit by another vehicle.

At about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, a Salem Street resident reported the possible theft by movers of jewelry with a combined value of over $10,000. The man said that he had moved here from Melrose about a week ago and the five rings had been in a box that he had brought himself and placed in a walk-in closet in his new home. The man told police that he had observed a mover that he had hired coming out of the walk-in closet and questioned him, but did not notice anything missing at the time. He said that he later noticed that the five rings were gone. Police are investigating.

Police placed a man and a woman, both from Pittsfield, into protective custody after being called to the Four Points at Sheraton Hotel for a reported fight in the lobby just after midnight on Sunday morning. On arrival, police were directed by hotel staff to Room 155 where they found the involved individuals. Management told police that they wanted the pair out of the hotel. Police said that the 30-year-old man who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol began yelling at police when they entered the room. Based on his conduct he was taken into protective custody. A 28-year-old woman in the room was also taken into protective custody.

The Fire Department responded to 30 calls over the weekend, 15 of which were for medical aid.
