LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High baseball team is off to a 3-1 start in 2024. They are 2-1 in the Cape Ann League with a 15-0 victory over Essex Tech on April 16, a loss to Triton (6-5) on April 9 and a win over Newburyport (9-1) on April 13.

The Pioneers kicked off their season with a 9-1 non-league win over Lynn Classical at Fraser Field in Lynn on April 6.

Lynnfield traveled to Swampscott this morning, one day after their win over Essex Tech. They will next travel to Georgetown on April 23 at 4 p.m.

The Pioneers needed some time to break out of a 1-0 deficit against Classical at Fraser Field.

Lynnfield erupted on four runs in the 6th inning and added five more in the 7th. Junior Madux Iovinelli (2-for-4) smashed a 2-run, go-ahead homer to right in the 6th, no easy task at Fraser.

Senior captain David Tracy, who got the start, racking up 5 K’s and no earned runs in 5 innings, hit a sac fly to get Lynnfield on the board in the frame and Iovinelli followed up with his homer to take the lead for good.

Senior captain Owen Mullin later scored on some classic Lynnfield small ball with a walk, stolen base and later a balk to make it 4-1.

With junior captain Tyler Adamo shutting out Classical in the final two frames, the Pioneers added some insurance in the 7th with RBI knocks from Tracy, Mullin and junior Nick Groussis.
