LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High boys’ soccer team wrapped up their regular season on Oct. 24 as they hosted Newburyport on Senior Night. The game ended in a 1-1 tie as the Pioneers were able to end a three-game losing streak.

“That was a very good game for us,” said Lynnfield head coach Brent Munroe. “We were able to get back some injured players and stop the three-game losing streak.”

Alejandro Lynch scored midway through the opening half assisted by Jack Cleary to post the Pioneers to a 1-0 lead they took to halftime.

The Clippers, who won the first meeting between the schools 3-2 on Sept. 20, tied it ten minutes into the second half.

Lynnfield goalkeeper Jack Campbell made ten saves.

Before the game, the four Pioneer 12th-graders were honored.

With the tie, the Pioneers finished 8-7-3 overall and 6-7-3 in the Cape Ann League. They ended up finishing in fourth place in the CAL Kinney division.

On Wednesday, the Pioneers will find out who they will open with in the first round of the Division 3 North state tournament. This is Lynnfield’s first year in Div. 3 as they previously played in Div. 4 before being moved up this season by the MIAA. Refer to www.miaa.net for seedings information.
