BOSTON — Eight members of the Lynnfield High girls’ cross country team participated in the Catholic Memorial Invitational at Franklin Park in Boston on a sunny, warm day last Saturday.

Abby Lopez had the team’s best time as she finished the 5,000 meter course with a time of 23:00 to finish in 104th place.

Gabby Bottaro and Caitlin Buoniconti came in at the same time as they both completed the course at 24:27 to finish in 127th and 128th place.

Maeve Wertz had a time of 25:32 (183rd) while Kaila George (184th) finished at 25:39.

Shealyn Moore placed 185th as she had the Pioneers last finish at 25:40.

As a team, Lynnfield came in 22nd out of 23 schools with a total score of 611. Lexington won with 58 points.

“Other performances were hindered by injuries and illnesses,” explained Pioneers first-year head coach Liane Cook.

Lily White had a time of 16:23.5 in the 3,000 meters junior varsity race to place 101st while April Sun came in 111th at 16:36.5.

The next event for the Pioneers is on Oct. 26 down in Wrentham as they will compete the Cape Ann League Championship Meet starting at 9 a.m. at the Wrentham Developmental Center.

In the regular season, LHS finished at 2-3.
