LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High girls’ indoor track and field team went 2-2 last season.
Not only did they lose four seniors from that team but they also lost head coach Adam Dell’Aria, who stepped down after four years at the helm.
The new coach is a familiar face as Bill Wallace, who is the Lynnfield High boys’ cross country and boys’ spring track head coach, will take over this season.
It was a successful season opener for the Pioneers on Dec. 14 as they defeated Manchester-Essex, 66.5-33.5, at the Track at New Balance in Boston.
The Pioneers had six individual winners against the Hornets.The six winners were Emma Greenleaf in the 55-meter hurdles (10.25), Hannah Ozanian in the 300-meters (46.09), Abby Lopez in the two mile (13:09), Elliana Moretti in the shot put (26-1,) Clara Caulfield in the high jump (4-6) and Allison Maddocks in the long jump (14-2).
Lynnfield also won the two relays. In the 4×200 relay, the team of Caulfield, Lily Rocco, Greenleaf and Ozanian had a time of 1:58.24.
In the 4×400 relay, the foursome of Lauren Mattia, Sophia Morgese, Caitlin Buoniconti, and Aislin McCormack had a time of 4:47.21.
Lopez also ran in the mile and qualified for states at 5:57.10 as she came in second place. Lopez also qualified for the states in the two mile.
“It was a solid win for the girls and a great way to start off the season,” said Wallace. “The goal now will be to keep improving the performances so we can become a better team.”
The next dual meet for the Pioneers will be on Jan. 7 as they take on Hamilton-Wenham back at the Track at New Balance. That will start at 5 p.m.
