LYNNFIELD — Three members of the Lynnfield High girls’ basketball team recently received postseason honors from the Cape Ann League coaches.

Victoria Morelli and Grace Klonsky were named to the Cape Ann League First Team All-Stars for the first time. Morelli, a senior, led the team in scoring, and blocks. The center averaged 10 points, two blocks and eight rebounds per game.

Morelli was a second-team All-Star last year.

“Tori stepped up being a senior this year,” said Pioneers’ head coach Peter Bocchino, who just completed his second year at the helm and fifth overall on the staff.

Klonsky, a junior point guard, averaged six points, five rebounds, four steals and five assists per game as she led the Pioneers in steals and assists.

“Grace did a tremendous job of breaking opponents’ presses,” said Bocchino. “In our league there are a lot of teams who try to press.”

Caroline Waisnor, a junior guard, was named to the CAL Second-Team All-Stars for the first time in her career.

“She was key in some of our big wins like the one against North Reading,” recalled Bocchino.

Waisnor averaged six points, three steals, four rebounds and she led the squad in deflections.

Lynnfield finished at 13-7 overall as they fell at Bishop Fenwick 59-44 in the quarterfinal round of the Division 3 North state tournament back on Feb. 28.

They finished tied with Masconomet for second place in the CAL Kinney division as Pentucket was first. The Pioneers went 10-5 in the league.

“It was trying at times early on but we had that nine-game winning streak to end the regular season,” said Bocchino.

Along with Morelli, the other senior the team will lose is her twin sister Melissa.

The rest of the team is slated to return next year so they should be in good shape again, especially with Masconomet moving to the Northeastern Conference.

“We might have to change our defense next year since we lose some size,” said Bocchino, whose team played mostly zone this winter.

Along with Klonsky and Waisnor, the team will also return its top rebounder, Cate MacDonald, a sophomore who averaged 12 boards per game.
