LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield-North Reading co-operative wrestling team has been steadily improving since the start of the season.

The Black and Gold (0-15) came up short in a super quad meet against Hanover, Gloucester and Salem on Saturday, Jan. 15 at Lynnfield High School.

LNR fell 53-18 to Hanover.

Freshman Cameron Arya (126 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 2:22. Sophomore Gavin Iby (145 lbs.) won his first varsity wrestling match by fall in 1:54. David Poirier (195 lbs.) pinned his counterpart in 1:52.

The Black and Gold fell 48-12 to Gloucester.

Iby (138 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 30 seconds. James Fodera (170 lbs.) brought his opponent to the ground in 46 seconds.

LNR concluded the super quad meet by falling 45-18 to Salem.

Junior Ethan Downey (160 lbs.) won his first varsity wrestling match after pinning his opponent in 1:23. Ben Schumacher (106 lbs.) and David Glynn (120 lbs.) won their respective matches by forfeit.

Black and Gold head coach Craig Stone was pleased that seven grapplers were able to win matches during the super quad meet.

“We are trying to focus on the things that we can control day-to-day and match to match improvement, conditioning and mental toughness,” said Stone. “To that extent, we have been very successful. We are winning battles along the way and gaining valuable experience each time we step on the mat.”

Falls to Triton

The Black and Gold began last week falling 33-0 to Triton on Jan. 10 at LHS.

“Triton was the 2021 Division 3 dual meet State runner-up,” said Stone.
