WAKEFIELD — The Lynnfield-North Reading co-op wrestling team finished ninth out of 17 teams during the Anthony Lisitano Tournament at Wakefield Memorial High School on Dec. 15.
Four grapplers placed during the tournament. Captain Timmy Leggett was crowned champion of the 132 lb. weight class and went 4-0 during the tournament.
Leggett began the tournament by pinning a wrestler from Greater Lawrence Technical School at 3:27. In the quarterfinals, he brought a Shepherd Hill Regional High School grappler to the ground at 1:13. Leggett defeated a Lexington wrestler by fall at 3:09 during the semifinals. During the finals, Leggett pinned an Arlington grappler at 4:32.
“The finals was a seesaw match with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions until the pin,” said Black and Gold head coach Craig Stone.

Captain Sean McCullough (182 lbs.) placed third during the Lisitano Tournament after finishing with a 2-1 record. He has placed in the tournament for the past three years.
Captain Stuart Glover (126 lbs.) finished fourth during the tournament after posting a 2-3 record. Glover has placed in the Lisitano Tournament for the past three years.
Junior Greg Camier (220 lbs.) placed sixth during the tournament after compiling a 2-3 record.
Junior Dan Ryan (160 lbs.), sophomore Nik Marotta (170 lbs.) and junior Gerry Callagy (195 lbs.) each went 1-2 during the tournament and did not place.
Sophomore Christian Real-Costa (106 lbs.), freshman Ryan McCullough (145 lbs.) and senior captain Dylan Reardon (152 lbs.) each went 0-2 during the tournament and did not place.
Stone was pleased with the Black and Gold’s performance during the Lisitano Tournament.
“As a team, we improved on our 11th place finish last year while placing four wrestlers,” said Stone. “We only placed two last year. We had a number of first year starters at the tournament who were able to gain valuable experience which will help them, and us, down the road.”
Fall to Pentucket
The Black and Gold (1-4) began last week falling 42-27 to Pentucket on Dec. 12.
Leggett (132 lbs.) pinned a returning sectional runner-up at 3:12. Sean McCullough (182 lbs.) defeated a returning state place finisher by a 5-1 decision.
Marotta (170 lbs.) won his match by fall at 4:42. Camier (285 lbs.) pinned his opponent at 1:20. Real-Costa (106 lbs.) won his match by forfeit.
“Pentucket returned with five sectional place finishers from last year, two of whom were state place finishers,” said Stone. “We are improving each day. Last year, Pentucket beat us by 30 points. Although there is not much satisfaction in defeat, there is also gratification in seeing the progress we are making.”
