SOUTH HAMILTON — On Sept. 13, the Lynnfield High golf team beat host Hamilton-Wenham, 142-125, at the Myopia Hunt Club. With that victory, the Pioneers stayed undefeated improving to 5-0 overall and in the Cape Ann League.

“That is the hardest course in our league,” stated Pioneers head coach Mike Moresco, about the private course. “None of our players have ever played it before and there is a lot of fescue to have to deal with. We did a great job of keeping the ball in play.”

Junior Owen Doherty led the Pioneers in points with 28 (Stableford scoring) while senior co-captain, Gavin Leuci, was second with 27. The other senior co-captain, Deven Henehan, was third on the team in points with 22.

In the home opener on Sept. 12, the Pioneers knocked off previously undefeated Newburyport 160-147 at Sagamore Spring.

“This was the first match in which we had three players score at least 30 points,” pointed out Moresco. “Newburyport has a good, consistent team but we were able to wear them down.”

Paul Daley led the team in scoring as the junior had 34 points. Leuci added 31 while fellow senior Joe Raffa had 30.

Lynnfield’s next two matches will be also at home.

On Sept. 21, the Pioneers welcome Manchester-Essex. They then face Triton on Sept. 26. Both of those matches will start at 3:30 p.m.
