LYNNFIELD — Four members of the Lynnfield High golf team took home awards at the team’s end-of-season awards banquet.
The team MVP Award went to senior captain Paul Daley. Daley averaged a team-high 29.8 points this season (Stableford scoring) as he played and scored in all 11 matches. He was the medalist (top scorer for the team) in five of them.
Daley was a Cape Ann League First-Team All-Star this fall.
The Most Improved Golfer Award went to Cam Dembro. Dembro, a sophomore, will be a captain next fall.
Senior co-captain, Brady Field, received the Student Scholar Award.
“Brady was tenacious,” said Lynnfield head coach Mike Moresco, about the third-year player. “He fought back from a season- long slump to record his highest match score of the season in the final varsity match of his career. He never gave up…I am very proud of this young adult.”
The final award went to sophomore Sam Bird who took home the Pioneer Pride Cup Award. This award is given to the junior varsity golfer who records the highest season long points average during practice rounds.
Lynnfield will lose five seniors from this roster to graduation. Along with Daley and Field, they will lose Owen Doherty, Drew Orlofski and Gabe Schumacker.
Doherty, the third co-captain, was a CAL Second-Team All-Star this year.
Daley, Doherty and Field were all key members of last year’s undefeated (12-0) CAL Kinney Division championship team.
“Four of these five seniors have been part of the program for the past three years and it has been truly a joy for me to witness their personal growth and maturity,” said Moresco, who just finished his 7th year at the helm. “Each of them always placed the team before their own needs and are shining examples of all that is good about high school students.”
The Pioneers are slated to return eight lettermen next fall.
Lynnfield finished this year at 3-8 as they tied for 3rd place in the CAL Kinney.
