NEWBURYPORT — The Lynnfield High baseball team cruised past Newburyport on the road on Saturday, 9-2, for their 11th win of the season. The Pioneers were able to avenge a 4-3 loss to the Clippers back on April 18.

Lynnfield (7-3 in league) is now tied for 2nd in the powerful CAL Kinney Division with Triton (7-4) and North Reading (7-4). Newburyport is first at 8-3. As of press time on Tuesday, the team has four more league games to make a run at first place including Tuesday against Triton and May 23 at North Reading.

Sophomore David Tracy got the win, scattering 6 hits and 2 runs while fanning 3.

Lynnfield got two runs in the 1st before exploding for five in the 4th to take a commanding 8-0 lead.

Sophomore Tyler Adamo got the scoring started with a walk, two stolen bags and a passed ball. Junior Anthony Grabau later connected on his first of two RBI knocks in this one to make it 2-0.

In addition to Grabau, RBI hits in the 5-run 4th went to seniors Alex Gentile, Nick Razzaboni and Camden Marengi.

Sophomore Madux Iovinelli came on to pitch a clean 6th and 7th as the Pioneers picked up one of their best games of the season.

After their game against Triton on Tuesday, Lynnfield will host Manchester-Essex on Thursday at 4 p.m. and Pentucket on Saturday at 10 a.m. Their game against North Reading on May 23 will be on the road at 4:15 p.m., their last CAL game before competing in the Brendan Grant Tournament at Belmont Hill on May 26 and May 27.
