NORTHFIELD — The cross-country teams gave strong performances during the Division 3 State Meet at Northfield Mountain on Veterans Day.
“Both teams qualified for the All-State Championship Meet at Fort Devens,” said Pioneers head coach Bill Wallace. “This will be the third year in a row that the boys’ and girls’ teams qualified for the state championship meet.”
The girls’ team finished sixth in the Division 3B State Meet with 173 points. Hamilton-Wenham finished first with 73 points. Advanced Math and Science Academy placed second with 97 points. Monument Mountain was third with 119 points. Hampshire Regional placed fourth with 122 points. Gardner finished fifth with 126 points, and Amesbury was seventh with 176 points.
The lowest score in cross-country wins a meet.
Junior Gabby Bottaro finished 12th overall in the Division 3B State Meet (21:42.71).
“Gabby received a medal for finishing in the top 15,” said Wallace.
Senior captain Viola Wertz placed 18th in the meet (22:22.43). Junior Kaila George was 29th overall (23:22.80). Sophomore Shea Moore finished 62nd overall (25:02.62).
Junior Caitlin Buoniconti placed 63rd during the meet (25:02.92). Senior captain Katie Cash finished 66th overall (25:09.74). Senior captain Olivia Goguen was 102nd overall (28:10.68).
Boys’ results
The boys’ team finished seventh in the Division 3A State Meet with 238 points.
Weston finished first in the meet with 53 points. Greater Lowell Tech was second with 68 points. Norwell placed third with 94 points. Triton finished fourth with 176 points. Belchertown was fifth with 192 points. East Bridgewater placed sixth with 212 points.
Captain Shea McCarthy finished 17th in the meet (18:11.87). Sophomore Dylan Nguyen placed 39th overall (19:06.47). Senior captain Ryan Nguyen was 41st overall (19:10.89). Senior Srivanth Tudi finished 57th during the meet (19:37.84).
Senior David Mower placed 84th overall (20:18.01). Senior Owen White was 90th during the meet (20:26.36). Senior Jack Marenghi finished 97th overall (20:39.15).
