LYNNFIELD — It was a successful Senior Night for the Lynnfield High boys’ basketball team last Thursday evening as the Pioneers knocked off Pentucket 56-43. It was the second win in a row for the team as they improved to 4-5 with one regular-season game to go.

Lynnfield led this game from wire-to-wire as they were up 28-21 at the half.

The Sachems were able to cut the lead to six early in the fourth quarter but a 10-0 run by the locals closed the game out.

“We were able to get some turnovers that turned into transition points,” explained Pioneers first year head coach John Bakopolus.

Luke Martinho led the attack with 20 points while Jack Ford was right behind him with 18. Dante Gesamondo pulled down 11 boards while Ford led the team in assists with seven.

After the game, the seven Pioneer seniors were honored.

In nine games so far, Martinho leads the team in scoring averaging 17 points per game while Ford is second averaging 13. Blake Peters is third averaging eight.

Gesamondo is the Pioneers top rebounder averaging 10 while Ford leads the team in assists averaging seven.

This Friday afternoon at 5:45 p.m., the team will play its final regular-season game as they visit Hamilton-Wenham. Lynnfield is looking for the season split against the Generals as they won the first meeting back in January.

Next week, the Cape Ann League is hoping to play a league tournament as the top four teams in each division (Kinney and Baker) will qualify.

The fourth seed will play the top seed while the second seed will play the third one next Tuesday in the semifinal games.

The two winners would then play in the final next Thursday for the two respective division champions.
