LYNNFIELD — This season, the Lynnfield High boys’ indoor track and field team went 2-3 overall. They came in fourth place out of six schools in the Cape Ann League Baker division.

“Due to injury and illness from our two top runners we were not able to do better,” said Pioneers head coach Christine Smith, who just finished her fourth year as head coach. “Ben (Kramich) missed two meets due to the flu while Alejandro (Lynch) missed two meets due to a torn meniscus.”

If both of those captains were healthy, Smith feels that the Pioneers could have went 4-1.

No Pioneer made the CAL All-Star team this season.

The team will lose five seniors, along with Kramich and Lynch, they will also lose their third captain, Josh Senat, who did the long jump and relay.

The two other graduating seniors are Pat Walsh and Tony Hunt. Walsh competed in the discus and high jump while Hunt competed in the long jump.

“The seniors were fabulous,” stated Smith, who coaches the Pioneer girls team in the springtime. “They had a great camaraderie with their teammates.”

Lynnfield is slated to return around 30 members next year.

The captains for next season have already been selected and they are current juniors, Joe LaFerla, D.J. Capachietti and Mike Dreher.
