LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High boys’ lacrosse team won its fifth-straight game on May 3 as they blanked Hamilton-Wenham, 16-0, at home.

With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the Cape Ann League. Meanwhile, the Generals fell to 1-8 overall and 0-7 in the league.

“They are a young, rebuilding team with a new coach in his second stint there,” explained Pioneers head coach Pat Lamusta, whose team posted its first shutout of the year. “He was there in the early 2000’s and he is trying to bring the program back.”

Lynnfield led 11-0 at the half as Lamusta got his bench a lot of playing time, especially in the second half.

Kelan Cardinal led the team in points with six as he had three goals and three assists. Will Norton had a team-high four goals to go with one assists.

Owen Considine, who missed the previous three games due to an injury, had a team-high four assists and one goal.

Mike Murphy scored four times while Owen Doherty had two goals and one helper.

Evan Rocha had one goal and one assist while John Powers had the other tally.

Ben Pimentel made seven saves to improve to 7-2 as he played until early in the fourth quarter. Steve Morse mopped up in net, making his varsity debut and the sophomore made one stop.

On May 1, the Pioneers beat guest Bishop Fenwick, 15-7, in a non-league game.

“They have an athletic team and Ben made some big saves early to allow us to break the game open,” said Lamusta.

Lynnfield led 5-1 after the first quarter and 9-3 at the half.

Norton had a monster game with seven goals and one assist. He also had five ground balls.

“It was an incredible performance,” stated Lamusta. “He has such a quick release and can find the open spots.”

Cardinal also had a big day with four goals and five assists. Doherty had a hat trick while Rocha had one goal and two assists.

Powers added three assists while Murphy had one.

Niccolo Antidormi had five ground balls and three takeaways while Tyler Maddocks was 10 for 21 in face-offs.

Pimentel made nine saves against the Crusaders.

On May 8, the Pioneers host Dracut in a non-league game. That will start at 6 p.m.

Lynnfield then welcomes Amesbury on May 10 at 4 p.m. The Pioneers beat the Red Hawks 16-2 back on April 29.

On May 14, they visit Ipswich at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers won the first meeting, 13-10, back on April 11 as the Pioneers are trying to split the season series.
