LYNNFIELD — It was a successful Division 4 playoff opener for the Lynnfield High boys’ tennis team as they shut out guest Mashpee 5-0, June 1 on a hot, humid day at Lynnfield Middle School.

With the victory, the 3rd-seeded Pioneers improved to 16-1 as they won their 16th-straight match. The 30th-seeded Falcons, meanwhile, ended the year at 3-14.

“Their roster has a bunch of younger kids,” pointed out Pioneers head coach Joe Dunn. “They should be a really good team in a couple of years.”

At first singles, Dan Levin won, 6-0, 6-0, over Colin Burdge while Shea McCarthy also won, 6-0, 6-0, against Andrew Kelly at second singles.

Shlok Kudrimoti defeated James Bellens at third singles, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, the first team of Russell Kasdon and Rafik Khodr won, 6-0, 6-0, over Camden Terry and Matt Duran. The second team of Sahil Akhter and Brendan Sokop recorded the team’s fourth shutout of the day as they blanked Jesse Dean and Jack Foley, 6-0, 6-0.

The Pioneers hosted Rockport in the Round of 16 match on June 6 (results not available at press time). Lynnfield beat them 5-0 in the regular-season back on April 24.

If the Pioneers won that match, they would take on No. 11 Bromfield in the Round of 8 at home (date and time unknown as of press time).
