LYNNFIELD — On Oct. 10, the Lynnfield High field hockey team had its five-game winning streak snapped as they lost, 3-1, to Triton at home. With that result, the Pioneers record dipped to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the Cape Ann League Kinney division as the Vikings were able to split the season series.
“We were in their area a lot and got off 19 shots but their goalie played well,” acknowledged Pioneers head coach Mamie Reardon.
After a scoreless opening half, the guest scored off a corner with 16:54 remaining.
Just 1:10 later, Carolyn Garofoli tied it, also off a corner, assisted by Gabby Langone.
Triton scored the eventual game-winning goal with 8:22 left and then they tacked on another one with 3:50 remaining.
Pioneer goalie Ava O’Brien made eight stops in net to fall to 9-3.
On Oct. 8, the Pioneers had their Playing for a Cure game under the lights and they beat visiting Ipswich, 3-1.
The Tigers scored first off a corner with 19”35 left in the first half.
Lily Rothwell tied it with 9:15 remaining on a rebound.
She then scored the game-winning goal with 20:42 left in the second half assisted by Maddy Murphy. Murphy then assisted on Anna Kaminski’s goal with 19:32 remaining as Lynnfield was able to score twice in a 1:10 span.
“Maddy had a great game,” stated Reardon. “She showed great speed and skill bringing the ball up the field.”
O’Brien made six stops in that game.
On Oct. 17th, the Pioneers visit Manchester-Essex at 3:45 pm. They then go to Amesbury on Oct. 22nd to take on host Pentucket.
That game will also start at 3:45 pm.
