LYNNFIELD — The Cape Ann League girls’ basketball coaches met recently to select first and second team All-Stars.
The Pioneers were represented by sophomore forward Melissa Morelli who was selected as a second team All-Star.
It was an excellent season for Morelli, who nearly averaged a double-double as she recorded nine points and 10 rebounds per game.
“Melissa had a great year and improved throughout the season,” said LHS head coach Jim Perry.
For Morelli, it wasn’t just the offense that stood out, as she was a force on the defensive end as well.
“She had two blocked shots per game and played hard on both ends of the court,” said Perry.
Morelli, along with her twin sister Tori, represent a bright future for the girls’ basketball team as they followed the lead of senior captains Emory Caswell, Mackenzie O’Neill and Lizzy Shaievitz. The Morelli sisters form a core of underclassmen including freshmen Grace Klonsky and Caroline Waisnor that gained valuable experience this season which will help the Pioneers in the future. Lynnfield will certainly rely on Melissa Morelli for her leadership next season.
“She is a leader on the floor and we expect big things from her next season in her junior year,” said Perry.
