BOXFORD — Last Friday night, the Lynnfield High girls’ basketball team fell to mighty Masconomet, 58-28, on the road in Boxford. With the defeat, the Pioneers record dipped to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Cape Ann League.

“They are a very cohesive unit,” said Lynnfield head coach Peter Bocchino. “They execute their plays well and have a very good pressure defense.”

Lynnfield was able to keep it close in the first quarter but the Chieftains (3-1 overall and 3-0 in the CAL) took control in the second quarter and had a big lead at halftime.

They then outscored the Pioneers 26-20 in the second half.

Victoria Morelli led Lynnfield in scoring with nine points while Kate McDonald added seven. Melissa Morelli, Victoria’s twin sister, chipped in six.

Mellissa Morelli led the team in rebounds with seven while McDonald had six.

The next game for the Pioneers will be on Dec. 27 as they visit Gloucester for a non-league contest. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
