ROCKPORT — The Lynnfield High field hockey team won its third consecutive game last Friday afternoon as they won at Rockport by a final score of 5-1. Lily Rothwell was the story of this one as she recorded her first hat trick of the season.

“This was one of her best games,” said Pioneers head coach Mamie Reardon, about the senior co-captain. “She was aggressive in the circle.”

With that win, Lynnfield improved to 3-1 overall and in the Cape Ann League.

Rothwell scored with 23:26 left in the first half assisted by Olivia Ventre. Ventre then assisted on Anna Kaminski’s tally with 5:31 remaining in the first half as Lynnfield went to the break up, 2-0.

Rothwell then made it 3-0, unassisted, with 28:07 left in the game.

The Vikings then got on the scoreboard less than two minutes later.

With 22:33 left, Rothwell got her hat trick to make it 4-1 as Lynnfield regained control of the game. Maddie Murphy assisted.

Georgia Milne had the final tally of the afternoon with 9:09 left and that was unassisted.

Ava O’Brien improved to 3-1 in net as she had two saves.

Conquer Vikings

In a wild game on Sept. 11, the Pioneers won at Triton, 7-3, in Byfield.

“I think that that was the combined highest-scoring game I have ever been involved with,” recalled Reardon, who is in her 37th-year at the helm. “Usually a team will win if they score just three goals.”

Eight of the 10 total goals were scored in a crazy first half.

Ventre scored the first two goals of the game both assisted by Murphy in the first 5:05.

The Vikings then scored on a corner with 23:42 left but Carolyn Garofoli made it 3-1 with Kaminski assisting with exactly 20 minutes left.

Ventre then made it 4-1 with 15:32 left assisted by Rothwell to increase the lead by three as she got her first-career hat trick.

“I was really happy for Olivia,” stated Reardon, about the senior attacker.

However, the Vikings then scored on another corner to cut the lead to two with 14:32 left.

With 13:18 left, Kaminski scored, unassisted to get the lead back up to three but Triton scored the final tally of the first half with 6:54 left and it was 5-3 at halftime.

Things settled down in the second half with only two goals. Kaminski got her third point of the afternoon with a goal with 25:31 left assisted by Rothwell.

Rothwell had the final goal of the day with 7:23 remaining.

None of the Lynnfield goals came off corners.

O’Brien made 10 saves in that game.

On Sept. 19, the Pioneers are at Newburyport. They then host Pentucket on Sept. 23.

Both of those games will start at 3:45 p.m.
