WINCHESTER — In a non-league game for the Lynnfield High girls’ lacrosse team on Monday afternoon, the Pioneers lost at Winchester by a count of 18-11.

With the loss, the Pioneers record dipped to 4-6 overall as they dropped their fourth-straight game. The Red and Black, meanwhile, improved to 4-6 overall.

“We got off to a slow start but played well after that,” said Pioneers head coach Christina Serra.

Winchester came out of the gates strong and led, 6-1, after the first quarter. They led, 11-6, at the break as the hole for the Pioneers was too big to dig out of.

Taylor Valiton led the Pioneer attack with a season-high nine goals. Her sister, Hayden, had one goal and two assists while Ava Damiani had the other goal to go with a team-high three assists.

Jordan Calichman and Lily White each had one assist.

Lynnfield goalie, Casey Flynn, made 10 saves in net.

Last Saturday morning, the Pioneers lost at home to Wakefield, 16-14, in a non-league game.

“It was two evenly-matched teams,” said Serra. “It was back-and-fourth all game.”

The Pioneers led this one, 8-7, at halftime

Taylor Valiton scored six times while Hayden Valiton netted five. Damiani had two goals and two assists while Keely Briggs had the other goal.

Maddie Mastrangelo, Calichman and White all had one assist.

Flynn turned back 13 Warrior shots.

“She kept us in the game,” said Serra. “She was on point with all of the shots she faced.”

On April 25, Lynnfield fell to Pentucket, 14-9, at home.

“We had to play the final six minutes two-men down,” pointed out Serrra. “It was a tough stretch and they scored several times.”

Lynnfield led this game, 6-5, at the half.

Damiani led the team in scoring with five goals while Hayden Valiton had two goals and three assists.

Taylor Valiton had the two other goals while White had one assist.

Flynn made 13 saves in that game. The Pioneers fell to 1-4 in the Cape Ann League with that defeat.

On April 23, the host Pioneers dropped a 14-4 decision to Manchester-Essex.

“They have an outstanding junior goalie (Brigid Carovillano) who is going to North Carolina,” pointed out Serra. “She is very tough to score on.”

The Hornets had a 7-3 halftime advantage and a 9-4 lead after the third quarter.

“Overall, they are the most talented team we have faced,” stated Serra.

Taylor Valiton had two goals while Calichman had one goal and one assist. Damiani had the team’s other goal. Flynn had eight saves.

On May 3, the Pioneers visit Hamilton-Wenham at 4 p.m.

They then face rival North Reading on May 7 with that game starting at 4:30 p.m. That game will be played at UMass-Lowell as North Reading is the home team.
