LYNNFIELD — The girls’ tennis team celebrated an impressive season during the Pioneers’ end of the season banquet recently.

The Pioneers finished the season with a 17-5 record, and advanced to the Division 3 North finals for the fifth straight year. Unfortunately, the Pioneers fell 5-0 to arch nemesis Manchester-Essex during the finals.

“The graduating seniors had a 75-10 match won-loss record over the past four years, winning three sectional championships,” said Pioneers head coach Craig Stone.

Senior captain Christina Albano was the recipient of the Coaches’ Award. Senior captain Makayla Maffeo was given the Lynnfield Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

Captain Alexa Vittiglio received the Most Improved Award. Sophomore Gillian Skelley and freshman Emma Gallucci each received Outstanding Achievement Awards.

“Gallucci and Skelley received Cape Ann League All-Star recognition for their play at first doubles this season,” said Stone.

Stone also presented varsity letters to members of the Pioneers during the banquet. Gallucci and Megan Nevils were the two freshmen who received varsity letters. The sophomores who received varsity letters were Skelley, Celeste Joly and Claire Yang.

Vittiglio, Nina Dunn, Emma Rocco and Grace Sokop were the juniors who received varsity letters. The seniors who received varsity letters were Albano, Maffeo and Bela Ferreira.

Stone also presented sub-varsity certificates during the banquet. The freshmen who received sub-varsity certificates were Brooke Adams, Jenna Brodigan, Ava Buonfiglio, Maddie Cook, Haley Corkhum, Sarah Doherty, Emily Goguen and Gabi Mellor.

The sophomores who received sub-varsity certificates were Mia Ichimura, Caitlin Murray and Ann Schmidt. The juniors who received sub-varsity certificates were Juliana DiCorato, Julie Lynch, Jenna Robbins, Emily Strout and Daphne Terris. Senior Amanda Motzkin received a sub-varsity certificate as well.

The Pioneers also elected Vittiglio, Dunn and Sokop as captains for the 2019 season
