LYNNFIELD — The girls’ tennis team held its end of the season banquet recently.

The Pioneers concluded the 2019 season with a 13-4 overall record and a 9-1 Cape Ann League record. Lynnfield qualified for the state tournament for the 37th consecutive year, but the fifth seeded Pioneers fell 3-2 to 12th seed Pentucket in the first round of the Division 3 North tournament.

“The graduating seniors had a 68-13 match win-loss record over the past four years and won two Division 2 North Sectional Championships,” said Pioneers head coach Craig Stone.

Stone presented several awards during the banquet. Senior captain Nina Dunn was given the Coaches Award. Sophomore Megan Nevils was the recipient of the Unsung Heroine Award. Sophomore Emma Gallucci was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award. Junior Gillian Skelley received an Outstanding Achievement Award as well.

Senior captain Grace Sokop was presented with the Most Improved Award. Senior captain Alexa Vittiglio was given the Contributed Most Award and the the Lynnfield High School Scholar-Athlete Award. Seniors Jenna Robbins, Emily Strout and Daphne Terris were each given a Team Spirit Award.

Additionally, Vittiglio, Gallucci and Skelley were recognized during the banquet after they were named Cape Ann League All-Stars this spring. Vittiglio played second singles this season, where she was virtually unstoppable. Gallucci and Skelley formed one of the CAL’s strongest first doubles teams.

Stone also presented varsity letters during the banquet. Freshman Anna Radulski received a varsity letter. Gallucci and Nevils were the two sophomores who received varsity letters.

The juniors who received varsity letters were Skelley, Celeste Joly, Elena Moisidis and Claire Yang. The seniors who received varsity letters were Dunn, Robbins, Sokop, Strout, Terris and Vittiglio.

Stone also presented sub-varsity certificates during the banquet. The freshmen who received sub-varsity certificates were Sara Breslow, Lauren Grava, Samantha Israelson, Lauren Lim, Maddy McCarthy and Emma Neenan. Sophomores Ava Buonfiglio, Maddie Cook, Haley Corkhum, Sarah Doherty, Emily Goguen, Makayla Greene and Gabi Mellor also received sub-varsity certificates. Juniors Caitlin Murray and Ann Schmidt were presented with sub-varsity certificates as well.

The Pioneers elected Skelley and Schmidt captains for the 2020 season.
