Pioneers sweep Reading; get tournament seeding Tuesday

LYNNFIELD — The Pioneer volleyball team hosted Hamilton-Wenham for a winner-take-all Cape Ann League matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Both teams entered the game with 12-1 league records.

The Generals jumped out to a lead after taking the first set 25-18. Lynnfield then came back in set two for a 25-19 win before Hamilton-Wenham won the next two sets, 25-20 and 26-24. 

It was a tough ending for the Pioneers on Senior Night as they honored a fantastic five seniors: Maxine Boyle, captain Emory Caswell, captain Elana Kotler, Ali McPherson and Melissa Morelli.

Crush Rockets

Lynnfield responded well from their loss to Hamilton-Wenham with a road sweep against Reading, 3-0, on Friday, Oct. 20. 

The Pioneers played two non-league road games after press time this week, against Arlington Catholic on Tuesday and Pope John on Wednesday. 

Lynnfield now awaits the decision of the MIAA to see what their seeding is for the Division 2 North tournament. The first round starts on Thursday, Nov. 2.
