Lynnfield falls to Newburyport 3-1 (Oct. 8)

 

NORTH READING — The LHS volleyball team beat rival North Reading 3-2 on Sept. 30 on the road. In a classic, back-and-forth battle, the Pioneers took set one, 25-19 before the Hornets won set two, 25-14. Lynnfield bounced back to win a wild third set, 26-24 and North Reading returned the favor once again with a 25-23 win in set four. The Pioneers came through in the clutch with a 15-9 set 5 victory, improving to 6-4 on the season.

Senior captain Chase Carangelo led the way with 11 kills. She added 4 aces from the service line, 14 digs and 23 serve receptions.

Senior captain Erika Pasquale added 8 kills, 4 aces and 24 receptions.

Sophomore Audrey Manning had 5 kills, 5 aces, 10 digs and 18 assists.

Senior captain Erin Higdon had 3 kills, 5 aces, 7 digs and 12 assists.

Senior Kim Staffer played great defense with 37 serve receptions.

Lynnfield welcomed CAL powerhouse Ipswich to LHS on Oct. 2. The Tigers won the first set 25-11, but Lynnfield bounced back winning the second set 25-20 before Ipswich sealed a 3-1 victory with a 25-16 win in set three and a 25-19 win in set four.

Carangelo (10) and Pasquale (8) led the team in kills. Manning (3) led the team in aces and assists (13). Pasquale (13) led the team in digs and Carangelo (33) led the team in serve receptions.

Lynnfield had almost a full week off to prepare for their next match on Tuesday in Newburyport after press time. They host Hamilton-Wenham on Thursday night, 6:30 p.m. for their annual Dig Pink fundraiser game.
