LYNNFIELD — On Sunday afternoon, the Lynnfield Senior Babe Ruth baseball team beat the visiting Malden Marlins 3-1 at Lynnfield High School. With that win, the team improved to 2-2 overall.

Christian Maney was the story of this one as the pitcher went to 1-0 going six innings.

“He was unbelievable,” said Lynnfield manager Mauro Cardarelli. “He threw hard and had good command of his fastball and curveball.”

Maney got into a little trouble in the seventh inning as he loaded the bases but Matt Fiore came in relief and was able to get his first save of the summer recording all three outs as the run scored was charged to Maney.

Clayton Marengi got Lynnfield off to a great start with a two-run double.

Lynnfield then scored their third run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Cardarelli was also pleased with the solid catching of Joc Contardo.

On July 3, Lynnfield lost at home to the Malden Bambinos 8-3.

Lynnfield was up 4-3 going into the fifth inning but a ruling by the umpires took a run away on a controversial call.

“That call took the wind out of our sails,” admitted Cardarelli.

From there the guests were able to scored the final five runs of the game and get the win.

The next game for Lynnfield will be on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. as they take on the Malden Marlins again at Pine Banks. The next night, they visit Winchester at 7 p.m.

On July 14, Lynnfield goes to Medford for a 5 p.m. start.

The team then hosts Winchester at Lynnfield High on July 17 with that game starting at 5:30 p.m.
