BEVERLY — Betty E. Prendergast, 92 of Beverly, died on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022 at the Beverly Hospital.
She was born in Melrose on Nov. 26, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Madison and Alice (Bowen) Belliveau.
Betty graduated from Malden High School as a member of the Class of 1947, and attended the Katharine Gibbs secretarial school in Boston. She was a dedicated homemaker who also held various administrative and bookkeeping positions during her lifetime. Betty was an active member of the Malden Hospital Junior Aid Association and attended the Cliftondale Congregational Church in Saugus.
Betty’s favorite past-times were playing the piano, reading and quilting. She also enjoyed walking at Lake Quannapowitt and the Revere and Lynn beaches. Her avid interest in nutrition and daily exercise at the Peabody YMCA helped her to lead a long and fulfilling life. In recent years, she enjoyed meeting new people while living at Colonial Gardens in Beverly. She also maintained lifelong friendships with her close high school friends, and continued to attend class reunions for many years.
Above all else, Betty has been a source of constant love and strength for her children and grandchildren. She will always be treasured for her unfailing support, advice, and willingness to listen. One of her life’s greatest pleasures has been caring for and spending time with her grandchildren, and getting to know her cherished great-grandchildren.
Betty was the beloved wife of the late Joseph R. Prendergast Jr. Betty’s son Joseph R. Prendergast III and his wife, Kim, of Aldie, Virginia; her daughter Susan Basilesco and her husband, Gary, of Lynnfield; and her daughters Karen Angrisano of Barnstead, New Hampshire and Allyson Campanello of Ipswich, survive her. She was the devoted grandmother of Michael and James Angrisano; Joseph and Sean Prendergast; Gregory and Brian Basilesco; and Grace and Faith Campanello. Betty was also the adoring great-grandmother of Julia and Evan Angrisano. She was a loving sister to Robert Belliveau, Richard Belliveau and Marjorie Donahoe, and leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are private and in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield. A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held in the springtime.
