WOBURN — Dorothy (McDevitt) Dixon, 92, passed away at CareOne at Lexington on Sunday, April 19, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank T. Dixon.

Born in Arlington, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Ellen (Hurld) McDevitt. Raised in Burlington, Dotty grew up on a farm there and was very familiar with the day-to-day operations. She was educated in the Burlington Schools, where she had graduated from Burlington High School, Class of 1945. While in high school she met Frank Dixon who often delivered the grain to the McDevitt family farm. They began dating, later becoming husband and wife. They traveled together for over 55 years.

They moved to Woburn where they devoted themselves to raising their family. Three daughters and a son kept the Dixon household hopping. Bringing up the family in the Green Street neighborhood lent itself to a lot of fun in the summertime. The pool, games, swings, park instructors, picnics and lots of other families kept everyone quite busy throughout the summer months. Dottie was quite proud of her children and remained very close to all throughout the years. Day trips, vacations in Franklin, N.H. for several weeks, and visiting many places all throughout the New England area kept Dottie and her family quite busy all throughout the years.

Dottie and Frank took part in the Baldwin Apples Squares and would square dance every week. They established a lot of wonderful friendships and “kept on dancing” for close to 40 years.

After the children were grown and began families of their own Dottie loved becoming a grandmother! She often dropped by each of their homes, spending time with her grandchildren, having tea with her daughters and then headed home.

Spending time with family was what Dottie’s life was about. Her friendly, kind, and good-natured ways were always a pleasure to be around. Dottie always showed great interest not just with her family but with all those she knew. She enjoyed listening and chatting not with just family but a host of others she met wherever she went.

Dottie was a woman of great faith. Every week over the years she was actively involved in St. Charles Church, and was never afraid to help out. She lived, she loved and she laughed, leaving some wonderful memories for those who had the pleasure of spending time with her.

Sadly, Dottie was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her brother, William McDevitt.

Dottie is lovingly survived by her children, Elaine “Laney” Judd and her husband Michael of Woburn, Carol A. Schelzi of Lynnfield, Lorraine “Lori” Korte of Tewksbury, and Daniel Dixon and his wife Jeanne of North Reading. She was the dear sister of the late William McDevitt and the devoted grandmother of Janice and Holly Judd, Katelyn Champion, Jaclyn Powers, Jeffrey Schelzi, Erin Korte, Elise Brucato, and Steven, Thomas and Samantha Dixon, and several great-grandchildren.

Due to the current situation we are experiencing with the coronavirus, arrangements are private and under the direction of the Lynch–Cantillon Funeral Home, Woburn. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit: lynch-cantillon.com.
